Whats new for '78: With such a major redesign the previous year, changes for '78 are minimal. The major change is the addition of a diesel V8 to the options list. A rallye instrument cluster is also a new option. Visually, there is a new grille design and wraparound turn lenses. In the rear, tail lamps are new too. |

Biggest News: The newly optional Diesel 350 is the first diesel V8 in the world. It was originally scheduled to be introduced in '77, but production delays prohibited that. Tests revealed a fuel economy gain of up to 25 percent with the diesel engine over comparable gasoline powered engines. |

Identifying a '78: '77-'79 Ninety-Eight's all share the same overall shape. A '78 will have wraparound front turn-lenses like in '79, but front parking lights are segmented in two like in '77. | ||
