1998 Intrigue

Whats new for '98:
The all new '98 Intrigue was not intended as a direct replacement for any previous model, though it filled the price and size void left by the departed Cutlass Supreme. Styling was based on the 1995 Antares concept car. Initially there were two trim levels, base and GL. A GLS model was added mid-year. Purple was discontinued mid-year, leaving eight other choices. The 3800 V6 was a last minuite switch that delayed the car's introduction. The 3.4 V6 was originally planned, but it didn't test well in consumer clinics.

Biggest News:
As Oldsmobile's intended volume mid-size, this "Sophisticated twist on a sports sedan" was aimed at customers who otherwise wouldn't consider an Oldsmobile, even if it meant coming at the expense of traditional customers. Defining "focused", there was only one bodystyle, one transmission choice, one engine and one seating configuration. Many dealers and traditional customers saw the decision not to offer bench seating as a drawback.
